When I was little...

So a while back I bought this book called Soul Catcher. Basically it's meant to help you journal about yourself. I thought I would occasionally answer a question or two from it and post for all to see. It will be just another glimpse into me!

When I was little I wanted to...

be a singer. There wan't much else that I remember. I have always loved music. When I was finally old enough for chorus in elementary school, I was so happy. It was different than church choir... you had to "audition". You also generally had to want to be there (or at least not want to be in class bad enough to be good).

I remember I used to put on records of musicals like West Side Story and dance around and sing. I had a poster bed, so it was especially fun to swing around. I also listened to The Mamas and the Papas, James Taylor, Carly Simon... Michael Jackson... almost anything in mom's record collection. My tip-top favorite was Amy Grant. She got played (and sung) over and over.

When I grew older I wanted to...

be a doctor. More specifically a heart surgeon. I always was challenged by science. It wasn't mindless like English and Social Studies/History was to me. I had an easy time with it, but I actually had to think. I remember when I discovered my facination with the heart. It was in health class in ninth grade. It facinated me - even the basic information we were learning. I am still amazed by it. Let's just say in Anatomy that was the only test for which I actually studied. I think I got a 98 or something high like that. I love the heart. I also wanted to do something for people. And be respected. And make money. hehe...

What's stopping me?

That's pretty easy. For part one, I'm not that great a singer. I have a decent voice, but nothing anyone would want on a CD. For part two, I just can't go to school that long. After about 3 years I need a serious break. I realized this once I got out of respiratory school. Another thing is, I have a good job with a lot less stress, better hours, and decent pay. It is close enough to being a doctor. I'm still working on the respect part, but I think I just need to find a new hospital for that.

I will...

be happy with where I am now. I do have dreams. I'm beginning to realize that (thanks Oprah). I think I am content now to dream my dreams and work on giving Connor his ability to dream. I try not to look at that like I've "given up" my dreams. They're just on hold. They are changing as I change. In a way I have achieved a lot of them this last 2 years. I have a home/house, a mostly-there-for me husband (his work sucks), a beautiful baby (after trying a while), a job I can tolerate, a family I love, and I'm making some more friends! Woo hoo! Life is good.
