Babies in the Snow

So we've had a nice little day at home today. As I said, practically the whole state shut down. Significantly for us, that meant Connor's flu shot appointment was canceled again. Let me tell you how heartbroken I was. Can you see my tears? I think I am going to take this as a sign that he doesn't really need the flu shot that badly. Boo hoo.

We headed out right after lunch for a little snow time. The kiddos got to try out their fancy new duds - boots and snowsuits. Both handled them well, although Clara couldn't get up if she fell over. It was very funny. I started out carrying her across the street to be social and she began her all to familiar cry of "WA! WA!" (meaning, of course, walk!) I would set her down, look for Connor (off playing), and turn back to her on her hands and knees. I gave her time to figure it out, but soon the cries for "Hep!" would begin. Eventually she just gave up and started crying "Hep!" as soon as she bit the dust. All in all, they both enjoyed it. Hopefully, it's not too icy in the morning to get some fun snow time in!

Snow day

So the entire state is shut down... we're expecting 3-6" of mix here. Sounds like fun!

Dec 1st

Brought our first snow of the season! As I was nagging Connor to put his socks and shoes on and as he was dancing around and generally ignoring me as usual, he looked out the window. What is it doing except pouring down snow! I mean pouring, which was really odd because the sun was shining. We literally had a snow shower. In two minutes it was finished. Connor was sad (he had immediately run to put on his snow pants), but I was not. We really needed to get to Target!

It should snow more tomorrow and Monday... we'll see if anything other than slush comes of it. Gotta love those forecasts that are rain turning to snow turning to rain turning to snow....

I told you...

I'd show you the view!

Gotta love it! We've been past peak for about a week... the wacky weather (strangely warm) kind of weirded out the trees. But the weather is getting in gear now! We've officially pulled out the coats and gloves (Connor thinks gloves are soooo cool). During the day it's been in the upper 40s, but as soon as the sun goes down the temperature plummets. My handy dandy thermometer said it was a low of 29 last night. Brr. Good thing I love cold weather!

Fall?

Yeah... so it's supposed to be 72 here tomorrow and near 80 on Monday. Fall? What's that? My favorite time of year is disappearing. I'm sure it will snow in November. BAH!

Summer Fun

We've been enjoying the weather now that it is finally warm. It's been strange waiting for the heat. But now that it's here, we're having fun. I bought a pretty good sized pool for Connor to play in and he LOVES it. Clara would be happier if she could crawl in it, but she enjoys leaning over the edge and splashing in the water.

SUPER-Connor!!! Connor would get as far away from the pool as he could and run, run, run then jump over (almost) the edge. Splash! He also loved to show me how he could hold his breath and go from one end of the pool to the other. I need to get him in swimming lessons!

Clara was suffering from a severe lack of a nap, but finally found her happy place in my chair.

The grill master at work. Michael loves trying new things on the grill. Every year he figures out a new trick or item to cook that we just love. I love grilled food!

After pool time was over we enjoyed more time outside. Connor is a little sports kid. He shows lots of natural talent... dribbling a soccer ball, shooting baskets. I have to make sure he stays active like that. I'm more of a book person (uhm... duh) so it will be an active effort.

Wacko weather

Yup. Everyone jokes that this phenomenon is unique to their area, but I believe it happens everywhere at one time of the year or another. You know what I'm talking about... the dramatic temperature/weather change. My most recent experience with this occurred over the last few days.

On Thursday it was beautiful here. It was jacket weather (if you stayed out of the wind *sigh* but that's another topic) and the sun was bright and warm. We enjoyed time outside and to Connor's delight we hit up the park several times in one day. All the children in my house took lovely long naps due to the fresh air and exercise. Mommy got to be social with some neighbors. Life was good.

Then came the change. That evening it began to get cloudy. Then the wind really started blowing (although you almost couldn't make out a difference from the normal state of things). In the morning there was a good coating of snow and it was still coming down.

It continued to snow all day. Then by the time Michael and I went to bed, it had turned to sleet. Yuck! This morning, what looked like snow had an icy crust on it. Fortunately, they are really good at keeping the roads clear here!

Scary!

Clara just cruised the length of the coffee table and down in front of our TV without batting an eye. Now she's standing there trying to figure out how to get to the door without crawling. Oops... she gave up and crawled. I am soooo in trouble. She's 9 months today and about to walk. Aaahhh!!!

On a very happy note, the weather was beautiful here today. It was warm enough for just a jacket over long sleeves. We spent nearly 2 hours outside this morning. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer but cloudy. I am ready for spring and the great summer weather we're supposed to have here. I hope it's nice where you are! ~:-D

Yuck

Yes. That's an adequate description of yesterday. When we woke up it had "snowed" enough to cover the road and give a white look to the grass. Then it started to sleet. Yeah. Then it started to pour rain. Then it stopped raining and because it was dusk the temperature started to drop. It is a mess outside. At least it's sunny today. Now everything has a pretty shine to it. Ugh. I love ice!

Funny how life...

you can fill in the blank. I've been busy already today. Connor got up about a half hour after I posted... or rather I went to check him and he was "awake". I found him sitting on the edge of his bed, staring out the window, wheezing away. That's right friends. Connor's cold turned into his annual asthma fest! Woo hoo! Being the smart respiratory therapist I am (hehe) I whipped out his inhaler and squirted away. It didn't exactly have the desired effect. Since I haven't (hadn't) figured out how the medical thing works up here, I called the clinic to see what they do (in VA you just head straight to the ER with wheezes). Up here, you make an appointment to be evaluated (unless you are about to die, of course). Yay! I made said appointment and of course Connor needed a nebulizer treatment. *sigh* At least he's predictable. Fortunately, he only needed one treatment. We picked up his meds and headed home. Poor kiddo. He did so well listening and such. He was just excited that it was his turn to go to the doctor. Silly kid.

As a side note, it is so extremely cold here today. The kind of cold that makes you gasp and then cough because it stings. When I looked at the weather this morning it said it was 19 here. Brrr! The van said it was 31 in the sun when we left the clinic. Ah! I need to figure out something for our front door... I may need to call the housing people. It won't lock if it's closed all the way (read against the weatherproofing strip). It is also on the river-side, meaning the wind is constantly blowing on that side of the house. Today you can actually feel the breeze coming through about 10ft from the door! I was wondering why the front was always so much colder than the back. Anyway, I taped some felt over the "seam". It is at least slowing the flow of frigid air. I'll come up with a better solution soon. Hmm... ~:-)
